Extremely clear waters and lots of marine life is what you’ll see in underwater Rhodes. Scuba diving is a popular activity on the island – although you need to have a proper authorization and/or accompanied by a recognized diving instructors – and only in designated areas. This is due to the abundance of antiquities hidden in the waters around the island.

The island has quite an interesting selection of diving sites, but the most well known is Kalithea Bay which is home to over 30 different species of fish and plant, since up until recently, it was the only place in the island where one could dive legally. Still, the mushroom, the blue hole and the crystal fish alley in Kalithea Bay are very popular. Greeks have a long tradition in diving. Here you will find some of the best divers in the world, many very offering their knowledge and experience as instructors eager to teach others what they know and pass on their love for the world under. You will find a number of scuba centers in Rhodes, most of the can be contacted in the Mandraki marina. If you have your own equipment, pack it up and take it with you. If you don’t or don’t wish to bring it along, the local scuba centers will provide you with everything you’ll need. If you are an experienced diver, you should be holding your certification and your logbook. If this will be your first rendezvous with scuba, a swim suit will do.

A word of warning: Divers are strongly advised to not remove anything from the sea-bed and to avoid to take to the surface any kind of souvenir! The authorities are extremely sensitive and there are severe controls to avoid any kind of infringement.

Snorkeling is permitted anywhere.
